2009 Cheakamus Challenge - Sept 19

Martin Lazarski - Cheakamus Challenge 2009 winner

Although summer is over, the weather held as the Sea to Sky Trail team participated as an exhibitor at the finish line of the 20th Anniversary staging of the Cheakumus Challenge Fall Classic Mountain Bike Race.

This exciting 70km cross-country epic, using (mostly) the Sea to Sky Trail route, is the longest one-day race in the Sea to Sky corridor. 250 competitors, from pro-riders to newbies, battle to beat the course from Squamish to Whistler.

This year’s overall winner, at 3:09:47, was Martin Lazarski, riding for Rocky Mountain in the Pro Expert Men’s division. When asked about the new section of the Sea to Sky Trail included in this year’s race Lazarski said: “It was a really "flowee" trail. At times I felt I wasn’t racing; just having fun.”
